Rain for a flooded river

June 20, 2011 by Carl McDonald

No mileage due to weather

A buck in "velvet" spends the day in a front yard of a home in Saratoga

When we came off the mountain this morning it was apparent we were not going to be able to ride. The weather was cold, rainy and windy, and was not going to improve much during the day, so we called off the ride. Anticipating better weather tomorrow, we’ll resume. The dedication for Eric Robbins continues tomorrow.

The North Platte River is at record flood stage and this town has the berms and sandbags to prove it’s readiness. Cold rainy weather is welcomed here, as that slows the melting of the snow pack in the mountains that feeds the river.

Holding the water back

There's still room to float a boat under the golf course bridge...maybe.

I have been following your posts since the warm days of your Florida travels. (I live in Tampa). My sister met you on a ride earlier this year in the Washington DC area and referenced me to your blog. I have been very impressed with your stamina, focus and desire. I do a lot (well that is a relative term) of riding in the Tampa Bay area and have done a few centuries. I am intrigued by your ride, and hope someday I have the discipline to do one myself. I look forward to you posts every day.

Congratulations! 3,000 miles and into Wyoming.
That remote camp site is great.
    Lookin’ good . . .

    Carl-
I had the honor of meeting you yrs. ago when I worked in MADD’s DC ofc (I now live in Denver). I just came across your blog–you continue to be an inspiration! Thank you for what you’re doing–my prayers and well wishes are with your sister and you.

My continued thoughts are prayers are with you both. I know this trip has been grueling physically and emotionally for each of you. 21 years later, I still have “new normals”. Differing circumstances, but painful none the less. You are both strong of heart and spirit and your journey is inspiring others to build theirs as well.
